‘Man, what a great job’: Dan Campbell praises Detroit Lions after NFC North Championship win
Dan Campbell’s full remarks following the Lions’ 31-9 victory over the Vikings.
DETROIT (FOX 2):After the victory, head coach Dan Campbell commended his team’s performance against the Minnesota Vikings, a formidable opponent.
Campbell remarked, “We knew what was at stake, and our guys, they came out and played,” following his team’s victory as the top seed.
Speaking in Detroit on Sunday night, Campbell began by praising the defense and stating that they had a significant portion of the game under control.
“The defense people, in my opinion, carried out our job and our discussions precisely. We exerted a great deal of pressure, and it just paid off,” he remarked. “They’re a terrific team with good coaching over there. Kevin O’Connell is excellent; we had a lot of weapons and managed to hold them in check until our offense found its groove.
He continued by discussing how the club as a whole worked together to upset the Vikings 31–9 at Ford Field.
In two weeks, the Lions and Vikings might play again.
“It was a complete team effort; we took the entire unit after starting with our defense. “Dude, you did a fantastic job,” he said. “Everybody did their part to a T.”
He also talked about the defense’s readiness to contain Minnesota for however long it took.
“Our defense was prepared to take the field and perform its duties if things didn’t work out. That’s the attitude,” he stated. “You don’t walk onto the field; you sprint on the field, and you got to get a stop.”
Campbell claimed that his team’s performance and Sunday’s victory had been planned for some time.
“I believe you had to go through the core of this unit, which is what we’ve been through for the past four years. Everybody who enters then follows suit since that is the foundation of our organization, and they truly delivered for us today,” he stated. “It’s a special group.”
Additionally, Campbell praised linebacker Alex Anzalone during the news conference following the game. Three players were given game balls on Sunday night, including Anzalone.
“I thought it was going to take him a minute to work himself back in, and it didn’t take long at all, and he was back to what he was before he got injured,” Campbell explained.
