Lions’ Campbell says David Montgomery should be back for playoffs after the bye

Although the Lions received positive injury news, notably about David Montgomery, other injured starters are anticipated to miss the entire playoffs.

FOX 2.Running back David Montgomery is anticipated to return for the NFC Division Round of the playoffs, according to Coach Dan Campbell’s injury updates on Tuesday.

Either the Rams, Vikings, Commanders, or Packers—the teams with the lowest remaining seed—will play that game on January 18 or 19.

In response to the question of whether he anticipated Montgomery returning for the Divisional Round, Campbell said, “I do.”

In an attempt to recover more quickly, Montomery chose rehabilitation over surgery after injuring his left MCL. Jahmyr Gibbs, a fellow tailback, has taken on a heavier responsibility in his absence, as evidenced by his four touchdowns and 170 rushing and receiving yards against Minnesota on Sunday.

The Lions finished sixth in rushing yards this season, led by 1,412 rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns from Gibbs and 775 rushing yards and 12 rushing scores from Montgomery.

Montgomery has missed the last three games due to an injury sustained during the Buffalo Bills’ Week 15 loss.

Now that their opponent has been decided by the NFL’s Wildcard Round this weekend, the Lions can relax this week and let the dust settle.

“Back-to-back division wins and we got the one seed,” Campbell stated. “So we knocked out two of our goals this year and we’ve got one more to go.”
