FOX 2, Flint, Mich.Authorities claim that a pupil at an alternative high school in the area had a stolen firearm in his rucksack, leading to accusations against him.
A 9mm handgun was discovered in the 18-year-old Flex High School student’s bag during a “routine search” on Monday morning, according to the Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office, which led to his arrest.
After school staff confiscated the firearm and handed it to the authorities, the student was taken into custody. Police discovered the weapon was stolen after seizing it.
“I want to commend school officials for their efforts in discovering the weapon, detaining the student and seizing the gun before any chance of something tragic occurring,” prosecutor David Leyton said. “I want to make it very clear to the public that taking a gun or any fatal weapon into a school is strictly banned, and we will be vigilant in holding people accountable under the law, even if the investigation seems to indicate that no threats were ever made against anyone during this event. This issue is being handled appropriately because it is a very serious one.
The student is now accused with carrying a concealed weapon and receiving and hiding a stolen firearm.
