Oakland Mall’s iconic Macy’s to close amid retail shift to online shopping
As more consumers choose to purchase online rather than in-store, the dwindling chain of stores is attempting to revamp its operations.
FOX 2: Oakland County, MichiganA long-standing mall in Metro Detroit, where millions of memories were created, is coming to an end.
One of the biggest in the nation in the spring is the enormous Macy’s store in the famous Oakland Mall.
As more consumers choose to purchase online rather than in-store, the dwindling chain of stores is attempting to revamp its operations.
“I’m shocked that so many Macy’s stores are closing because I frequented them a lot as a child. It’s a little depressing. “Very depressing stuff,” a consumer remarks.
The firm claims that closing these many stores is the first phase of its Bold New Chapter strategy, which calls for closing about 150 locations over the course of three years in order to restore robust sales and earnings.
The business plans to invest in 350 “go forward” outlets with more advanced offerings in the interim.
Mario Kiezi, the owner of Oakland Mall, claims that the enormous Macy’s, which was once a Hudson’s, was a major force and one of the most successful department stores in the Midwest for many years.
He thinks the door is now open to amazing chances, even though the shutting signifies the end of an era.
“As for who will replace it, that is yet to be determined; however, we can confirm we are actively exploring transformative opportunities,” Kiezi stated.
