Chicago (AP):Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn, the offensive and defensive coordinators for the Detroit Lions, were interviewed by the Chicago Bears on Saturday for the head coaching post.
The Lions are getting ready for the playoffs, so both interviews were done virtually. Detroit (15-2) got a bye this weekend and was awarded the top seed in the NFC.
Johnson has been the offensive coordinator for Detroit for three seasons. The Lions finished second in passing yards and overall yards per game this season, and they topped the league in points per game.
Glenn has been Detroit’s defensive coordinator for four seasons. The Lions had the third-best yards passing allowed per game and the seventh-best points allowed in the league.
On Thursday, the Bears conducted interviews with Mike Kafka, the offensive coordinator for the New York Giants, Drew Petzing, the offensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals, Anthony Weaver, the defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins, and Pete Carroll, the former coach of the Seattle Seahawks. On Wednesday, they conducted an interview with Mike Vrabel, the former coach of the Tennessee Titans.
The Bears are looking to replace Matt Eberflus, who was let go after the club lost for the sixth time in a row, dropping to 4-8. After losing ten straight games, Chicago finished last in the NFC North with a 5-12 record.
