Dynasty Warriors: Origins takes tips from other series for a truly refreshing reboot

Since DYNASTY Warriors established its own genre, dozens of musou games have been made for practically every well-known IP.

Despite its setback with Dynasty Warriors 9 in 2018, the original series is making a strong comeback with Dynasty Warriors: Origins, a series prequel.

Origins nearly seems to have been influenced by the most popular musou series, which makes sense given that developer Omega Force has worked on so many of them.

You can employ the Sheikah Slate’s abilities to fend off enemy strikes and continue to attack in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.

Similar countermoves in Origins leave opponents open to combo attacks. This is only one of many combination changes in the game that seem to be influenced by other well-known musou series.

The franchise feels more modern than it has in ten years because to its experimentation with new mechanics.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins makes extensive use of the more potent hardware available today.

When compared to prior games in the series, you can obviously see and feel the increase in adversaries. Omega Force stated that it hoped to display 10,000 foes on screen simultaneously.

Because you can’t clip through foes like you can in other games, it can feel cramped, but it feels amazing when you execute attacks that instantly knock back hundreds of enemies.

Even if you may ride your horse through crowds and see the enemy fly away, boss bouts still make the crowds feel difficult.

Officers can intimidate regular soldiers by charging you with spears or barrage you with arrows.

The strategies they require are very powerful and can cut your combinations, making the game much more challenging.

Although you can also employ these strategies by commanding your own troops, Origins is entirely playable without doing so if you wish to keep all the glory for yourself.

Allies assist you by taking bases on their own and making gradual progress toward your objective, but you will frequently need to step in to provide assistance.

It’s your typical musou technique, where you continuously monitor your mini-map to make sure you don’t overlook anyone who requires your focus.

By taking on the position of a mercenary, you can test out all the factions before committing to one, and you can choose the one you believe will assist you maintain peace.

Additionally, Origins has a sophisticated 3D overworld in which chibi characters move between locations to reveal the locations of each combat.

As you become eager to fight at a distant mountain temple, it also effectively illustrates what is ahead.

While traveling, you can also engage in optional combat and even engage in one-on-one confrontations with opposing officials.

They are always brief, but only ardent fans will want to participate because of the straightforward rewards.

It does help you understand a little bit more about the planet and gives some of the other unusual warriors more personality.

The fact that you constantly feel like you’re getting closer to your main objective is the most crucial aspect of the gameplay loop.

You are constantly growing stronger, capable of engaging in increasingly difficult battles, and posing an increasing threat to other people.

Taking on the same sort of battle over and over again has always damaged the musou genre.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins is no different, but at least the fights are really fulfilling.

Because of the increased experimentation made possible by the genre’s popularity, Origins is a welcome return to the Dynasty Warriors franchise.
