FOX 2.With 11 defensive players on Injured Reserve alone, the Lions’ injury list is well-known. Having a week off from a playoff bye was a welcome relief.
The injury status of the Lions’ walking wounded was, therefore, one of the first questions Coach Dan Campbell was asked Monday.
“We didn’t have any injuries over these past three days, so I think we’re okay.” Campbell gave a deadpan remark. “I can’t give you a direct response after three days off, but I’ll know more tomorrow as everyone is where they are. I simply know that everyone’s therapy has gone smoothly.
Running back David Montgomery will return when Detroit plays the Washington Commanders at Ford Field on Saturday at 8 p.m. in the Divisional Round.
Overview:
After missing the final three games of the regular season due to a knee injury, Montgomery will return to the field.
“It will have great significance. Referring to Montgomery by his number, Campbell stated, “Five is a big part of us.” He is a person who sets the tone. He acts as a stimulant. This game has a place for him, and this is one of them.
Terrion Arnold, a first-round rookie cornerback, is sidelined due to a foot injury, making it uncertain when defensive players will return. According to one rumor, the team’s second-round CB Ennis Rakestraw is scheduled to return from injured reserve on Thursday; however, it is unclear if he will be available on Saturday.
One advantage is that linebacker Alex Anzalone, who returned from a broken arm in the Week 18 Vikings season finale, will be playing in his second game back.
Associated with:
According to Campbell, Anzalone will be crucial in limiting Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels’ running prowess against Washington’s run-pass-option (RPO) scheme.
“Alex will always come to his aid and retrieve him. “I mean, it was really beneficial to have him back the other day,” he added. “He knows the game well enough to get him back. He studies. This offense will be known to him. He will be aware of their intentions. Additionally, he is able to assist those around him.
Lions coaching staff in demand
The Lions’ success has long caught the NFL’s attention, and as a result, offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn were interviewed several times.
Campbell was questioned about if he receives frequent updates on the success of their interviews from the previous week.
Campbell joked, “Why would I want to know that, you think that I want them to leave?”
According to the coach, he has not yet spoken with Glenn and Johnson about their interviews.
“I have an idea of how they’re doing, I have not run in there and asked if they are leaving yet – I didn’t do that,” said the man. “At some point I’ll talk to them about what transpired yesterday – until then I’m getting ready for Washington.”
