Israeli hospitals prepare for final traumatised Hamas hostages with warring sides on brink of peace deal after 465 days

Ahead of a ceasefire agreement, Israeli hospitals are getting ready to take in and care for the remaining wounded hostages.

In the initial round of the agreement being discussed between Hamas and Tel Aviv, 33 captives are anticipated to be freed.

According to officials, Israel is close to reaching a ceasefire agreement that could result in the release of Hamas prisoners within a few days.

After 15 months of war, it is anticipated that the agreement will help bring the Middle East crisis to a close.

After over a year in captivity, the situation of these captives will be “very different” from those released in November 2023, according to Dr. Sharon Alroy-Preis, head of the Health Ministry’s public health section.

The Israeli Cabinet would have to review and approve the three-phase proposal.

Majed al-Ansari, a spokesman for the Qatari Foreign Ministry, stated that the talks were fruitful but gave no specifics.

He continued: “Today, we are at the closest point ever to having a deal.”

A draft deal for the release of dozens of captives and a truce in the Gaza Strip has been approved by Hamas.

According to the terrorist organization, “negotiations had reached their final stage.”

Hamas will release three inmates every seven days as part of the agreement’s first phase.

In exchange for hundreds of Palestinian inmates, the 33 hostages will be freed over the course of the first three phases.

According to an official, the prisoners in the worse condition would be released first, with the remaining hostages in Gaza to follow.

Israel would exchange the 33 hostages for the release of over 1,000 Palestinian detainees, according to two Palestinian sources close to Hamas.

One of the sources stated that “Israel will release about 1,000 Palestinian prisoners, including several with lengthy sentences.”

According to mediator Qatar, Israel and Hamas are now the closest they ever been to reaching an agreement that would end the conflict.

Five female Israeli soldiers would be among the 33 hostages; each would be freed in return for 50 Palestinian inmates, including 30 militants serving life sentences.

According to the Israeli official, Israel believes the most of the 33 are still alive.

The first phase still has to be used to negotiate the second phase’s specifics.

The agreement does not contain written assurances that the truce will last until an agreement is achieved, and those specifics are still up for debate.

According to the Israeli official, in-depth talks on the second phase will start during the first.

He stated that Israel would not leave the Gaza Strip until all hostages were returned and that it would maintain certain assets during the negotiations, referring to a military presence.

For over a year, the United States, Qatar, and Egypt have been engaged in fruitless negotiations to put an end to the conflict in Gaza.

According to Hamas, the remaining hostages won’t be released until the conflict is over.
