TikTok ready to totally shut down app in US on SUNDAY as ban looms & fans flock to RedNote

As the federal prohibition looms, TIKTOK is prepared to completely block its app from Americans on Sunday.

In reaction to the government’s shocking action, defiant US social media users have rushed to the Chinese-owned app RedNote.

Because of national security concerns, the platform was banned at the federal level.

The government declared that unless the app’s Chinese owner, ByteDance, sold it to a buyer authorized by the government, the ban would be enforced.

According to reports, TikTokers will be greeted on Sunday by a new-looking app.

According to a report, TikTok’s plan will display a pop-up notice when users try to launch the app, sending them to a webpage that has details about the ban.

The website will then allow users to retrieve all of their data.

After Sunday, the government’s original plans for the app would not have implemented a blackout or removed the website from users’ phones.

Big mobile phone providers like Google and Apple would not have been allowed to support TikTok.

This would have involved prohibiting updates, which would have gradually rendered the website unworkable and glitchy.

Until it was revealed this week that Elon Musk was in negotiations with China to purchase the platform, discussions about possible buyers had been fruitless.

TikTokhas rejected the idea as “pure fiction,” despite officials in Beijing reportedly having discussions with Trump’s tech tycoon friend.

A representative for ATikTok stated: “We can’t be expected to comment on pure fiction.”

There are now few chances of a sale, and the US government has set a deadline of January 19.

TikTok has argued that the action would violate the First Amendment, which protects free speech, and has at least asked for a delay in the ban’s implementation.

A ruling by the US Supreme Court is the sole chance to reverse this imminent ban.

NOT APPY NOW

The short-form video app is used by 170 million Americans, or nearly half of the nation’s population, and TikTok estimates that a third of its users will stop using it within a month of the impending ban.

Many of these American social media users have rushed to RedNote, another Chinese-owned network, in search of a TikTok substitute.

An explosive decision

Jamie Harris, The Sun’s assistant technology and science editor, provided the analysis.

The long-running “Will they, won’t they” controversy surrounding TikTok’s potential ban may finally come to a head very soon.

It all stems from concerns about purported ties between ByteDance, the owner of TikTok, and the Chinese government, which the company has long denied.

According to the US Justice Department, TikTok presents “a national-security threat of immense depth and scale” as its parent firm is based in China and has access to user data.

However, it appears like TikTok may be planning to play hardball and decide to completely leave the US instead of undergoing a forced sale or other arrangement.

For a platform with an estimated 1.6 billion monthly active users worldwide, including 170 million in the US, this would be a game-changing choice.

This week, this program became the most downloaded product in the nation and soared to the top of the Apple program Store.

Due to the parent corporation of the app, the majority of its material is in Chinese; nonetheless, the website is evolving and becoming increasingly accessible to English users.
