Detroit’s Checker Bar closed after fire

DETROIT (FOX 2):The Checker Bar was damaged in an early Tuesday fire.

Around 4:15 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to the pub on Cadillac Square after receiving reports of a fire on the building’s first floor and basement. Firefighters cleared the area and put out the fire for about two hours.

Checker Bar claims that the basement’s electrical area was where the fire began. Owners of the business think the fire was caused by an explosion outside the building. An investigation is underway by the Detroit Fire Department.

Firefighters had to burst through the doors to enter the establishment, though it is unclear how much damage was done.

When Checker Bar will reopen is likewise unknown.

The company posted on social media, “We look forward to welcoming you back as soon as possible, and we will keep you updated on the progress of our recovery.”
