Juvenile shot by Detroit police Friday night after brandishing gun toward officers

Speaking Friday night from a police scene is Deputy Chief Jacqueline Pritchett.

DETROIT (FOX 2):During an altercation on Friday night, police shot a minor, who was taken to the hospital.

The man appeared to draw a gun after defying orders to stop walking, and Detroit police struck him twice.

The deputy chief said it occurred shortly after 11 p.m. in the vicinity of Seven Mile and Forrer Street.

They halted to look into a potential curfew violation after seeing a group of young males strolling down the street, according to Jacqueline Pritchett. Every subject, with the exception of one, stopped moving.

“As he was walking down the street, officers saw him fidgeting with his pants,” she continued. “They thought they saw a firearm.”

The man reportedly pulled out a gun as he went into an alley, which made the pursuing police panic and shoot him twice.

Before being transported to the hospital, he hit the patient in the wrist and leg. He had no life-threatening injuries.

There is no criminal record for the person.

According to Pritchett, an AK-47-style firearm was found at the site and added to the evidence.
