ESPN star issues groveling apology over wild Caitlin Clark rant after WNBA star sat with Taylor Swift at Chiefs game

After going on a tirade about Caitlin Clark’s Kansas City Chiefs fandom, ESPN’s Chris “Mad Dog” Russo apologized to her.

Alongside music legend Taylor Swift, the WNBA star attended the Chiefs’ Divisional Round playoff victory over the Houston Texans.

During the TV broadcast, the 14-time Grammy winner and the Indiana Fever guard Clark were sitting in Travis Kelce’s family suite and were spotted having a good time.

During his SiriusXM radio program Mad Dog Unleashed on Monday, the First Takestar Russo went on a tirade over the Chiefs, claiming he has no interest in the NFL team, Kelce, and his girlfriend Swift. He even questioned Clark’s franchise fandom.

“I watched Caitlin Clark play in how many NCAA basketball games over the past two years? … I never heard any mention of [Chiefs fanaticism]. Russo remarked, “I never saw her father with a Chiefjerseyon.”

“I have never seen Clark wearing a Chiefs hat. She is now a huge Kansas City fan, even though I never once heard her mention being a Chiefs fan in 50 games. Please, just quit.”

When Russo made an appearance on sports analyst Dan Patrick’s self-titled show on Tuesday, the host corrected him, saying that Clark is definitely a Chiefs supporter.

“Dan, I’m Chief’d out. I’ve been Chief’d out. And Caitlin Clark is now a Chiefs supporter?” Patrick got a response from Russo.

Following a similar tirade about his views on Clark’s Chiefs loyalty, Patrick took care to mention to Russo that she had been a Chiefs fan for many years.

“I was unaware of that. Did she? She loves the Chiefs. She is aware of Super Bowl 1, but is she aware of one of the most well-known games in the history of the National Football League—the 27–24 double overtime between Miami and Kansas City? Russo inquired.

A photo of a young Clark sporting a Chiefs jersey was then shown on the broadcast.

Russo was then asked by Patrick if he wanted to apologize to Clark.

“I suppose. I suppose. Caitlin Clark is not someone I should be making fun of. “Chief’d out,” Russo went back.

Clark has previously talked about her Chiefs love on a number of times, notably during a 2023 Monday Night Football game when she appeared on a ManningCast.

As the program displayed an old picture of Clark wearing Kansas City clothing, she talked about how she first became a fan during the Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles game.

When Clark joined the Kelce brothers on the New Heights podcast earlier this month, she too talked candidly about the subject.
