(FOX 2) STERLING HEIGHTS, MIIn connection with the fatal shooting that took place on Van Dyke North 14 Mile, one individual was charged with several offenses and arraigned in court.
The backstory
Luke Svacha, 51, was handcuffed in a jail on Tuesday during his hearing, while a judge read him the four felonies he faces, including one count of first-degree premeditated murder.
What they’re saying:
According to Sterling Heights Police, a shooting happened at the Extended StayAmerica parking lot on February 1. According to officials, it appears that Svacha, the suspect, was acquainted with Jawon Morals, the victim.
The guy allegedly trapped himself in his house after heading south on Van Dyke to Center Line following the incident.
During the hearing, assistant Macomb County Prosecutor 4 Sian Hengeveld stated, “The defendant barricaded himself in his house, and requiring officers to communicate with him via text to try to coax him out of the home.”
A Sterling Heights police officer was hurt during the arrest process. That is an additional fee.
“The allegations are that you did assault, batter, wound, resist, obstruct, oppose, or endanger Gregory Glinski a police officer with the Sterling Heights Police Department,” the court stated.
Despite his past convictions, none of them include violence or felony charges.
Next steps:
The defendant will automatically be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of release if found guilty of first-degree premeditated murder.
February 12 is his next court date.
