LAPD Arrests Suspect in Separate Attacks on Women near Venice Canals
DEBARYLIFE – Los Angeles police stated on Friday afternoon that a suspect has been taken into custody in relation to the violent attacks that occurred against two different ladies in the vicinity of the well-known Venice canals.
LAPD Cmdr. Steve Lurie announced at a press conference that Anthony Jones, 29, was brought into custody late on Thursday night in San Diego. His detention is reportedly taking place in lieu of $3.25 million in bond. The specifics of Jones’s identification as a suspect and subsequent whereabouts were not immediately made public.

According to Lurie, there was a sexual component to the attacks. Around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, police were called to the 2700 block of Strongs Drive in response to a report of a lady who had been struck by a blunt object while being approached from behind, rendering her unconscious, according to the authorities.
After an hour or so, the suspect attacked a second woman who was strolling close to the Sherman Canal in a similar manner. Both victims, according to the police, had serious injuries.
During the press conference, City Councilwoman Traci Park blasted policies that she called “catch-and-release” and “criminals are the victims”.

“People in the city of Los Angeles are sick and tired of feeling unsafe,” she continued. “In any Los Angeles neighborhood, much less our city’s most popular tourist destination, no woman, no guest, and no family should feel uncomfortable while strolling. We are driving our businesses to the breaking point, and customers are bearing the price.”
According to Park, there are “unstable and potentially dangerous” individuals walking the streets, and the city “is getting a bad reputation.”
“This time it was two innocent women minding their own business just walking through the canals,” she stated. “Any of us may have been the culprit—your wife, your sister, your buddy, your coworker, or your neighbor. It is past time that Los Angeles took public safety seriously.
After two ladies were viciously attacked over the weekend close to the Venice Canals, Los Angeles police are still looking for a suspect.
Following the attacks, the LAPD released a statement in which it stated that it was “alerting the Venice community to these crimes to emphasize the importance of personal safety.” “Residents are encouraged to be aware of their surroundings and notify the police of any suspicious activity or persons loitering in this area.”
As investigators worked to identify and apprehend the perpetrator, officers stepped up their neighborhood patrols, according to the Police Department.
