Ex-Clark mayor gets probation, fine

Sal Bonaccorso, the former mayor of Clark, was fined $15,000 and placed on three years probation for exploiting public funds to operate his private oil tank cleanup company through municipal employees.

In order to obtain unlawful licenses for tank removals, Bonaccorso allegedly acknowledged submitting fictitious applications to some communities.

Attorney General Matt Platkin claimed that the former mayor of Clark abused taxpayer-funded resources to profit himself at the expense of the people. The OPIA Corruption Bureau’s successful conviction guarantees that he will never be able to misuse his position of power again. No matter how strong they are, we will continue to hold accountable those who misuse the public trust.

Shortly after taking office for a fifth term, on January 10, he pled guilty and resigned. Bonaccorso will never be allowed to work for the government or occupy public office again.

As part of his plea agreement, Bonaccorso also agreed to a three-year ban on anybody dismantling subterranean storage tanks and a five-year ban on government contracts for his landscaping and underground tank businesses.
