Arrest Affidavit: Wilmer-Hutchins High School Shooting Suspect Armed with .38 Revolver on Campus

DALLAS – According to police records that FOX 4 was able to get, a student is suspected of carrying a gun to Wilmer-Hutchins High School and shooting a fellow student in the leg.

His identity was previously concealed by the district’s police unit under the pretext of “student privacy.”

Ja’Kerian Rhodes-Ewing, 17, is charged with two crimes when, according to an arrest affidavit, he carried a Pink Lady Handgun 38-revolver handgun to school last Friday. In the Dallas County Prison, he was registered as an adult.

Police claim that after the student was shot in the leg, the school was put on lockdown and Rhodes was directed by the teacher out of the building and out of the classroom.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., first responders showed up on campus.

The shot student was transported to the hospital, but he or she is anticipated to recover.

According to the police, Rhodes “intentionally and knowingly brought a 38-revolver handgun in a prohibited place and intentionally and knowingly shot the victim one time in his left leg, causing serious bodily injury.”

Both carrying a weapon in an area that is forbidden and aggravated assault with a lethal weapon are charges brought against Rhodes.

Parents expressed their worries about the incident at a community meeting held by a Dallas ISD trustee on Tuesday night.
