Alabama Correctional Facility Warden and Wife Arrested on Drug Charges

According to the Alabama Department of Corrections, the warden of Limestone Correctional Facility and his wife have been taken into custody and are currently facing charges related to cocaine and other drugs.

Following multiple bench warrants, Warden Chadwick Crabtree and his wife, Melissa Crabtree, were taken into custody on Friday at their residence by the Law Enforcement Services Division of the Alabama Department of Corrections, SWAT troops from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, and the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office.

Specifically, Chadwick Crabtree and Melissa Crabtree have been charged with unlawful possession of marijuana in the second degree, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, fabrication of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The Limestone County Jail was the location where they were taken.

Following the documents filed with the court, Chadwick Crabtree was taken into custody on September 1, 2022, in connection with an event that took place in Limestone County. There is a variety of psychoactive mushrooms known as psilocybin mushrooms, and the complaint says that the accusations are tied to the manufacturing of these mushrooms.

According to the announcement made by the ADOC, “[Chadwick] Crabtree has been placed on Mandatory Leave without pay without pay pending further personnel action.”

Chadwick Crabtree, who was born and raised in Elkmont, has been employed by the ADOC for more than twenty years. In the past, he worked as a warden at the Birmingham Community Based Facility, which was a facility for female convicts, according to the website of the ADOC. On the website of the organization, he is described as a “Warden III,” which is the highest position that an officer can hold at a correctional facility.

According to the ADOC, its law enforcement section also searched Chadwick Crabtree’s office, which was located within the penitentiary institution. An investigation is still underway, and officials have indicated that additional charges may be forthcoming.
