Still No Answers! The Mysterious Case of the Charred Vehicle in Denmark

DENMARK, S.C.- A missing woman’s family and friends are still looking for answers after cops discovered a charred vehicle with human remains in Denmark.

Megan Faith Bodiford, 25, was last seen in Denmark on April 25, wearing a gray T-shirt and Batman pajama pants, according to the Bamberg County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s incident report, deputies were summoned to Ghents Branch Road to conduct a welfare check. The caller told investigators that her friend, Bodiford, contacted her on April 25 at 9:48 p.m. and warned her that if she didn’t hear back within 30 minutes, she should phone police enforcement. She added that Bodiford believed her lover was going to kill her, according to authorities.

However, the report claims that the friend did not contact law authorities until the next day. After reviewing the call, contact history, concern for a 4-month-old baby in the home, and the boyfriend’s active warrant for domestic abuse in the second degree, investigators requested assistance from the SLED Fugitive Task Force in carrying out the search warrant for the boyfriend.

Around 8:11 a.m., investigators obtained data from the boyfriend’s smartphone. At 10:52 a.m., the search warrant was executed, and he was apprehended as he emerged from a shed in the backyard.

SLED discovered a healthy 4-month-old in the residence.

Thursday marks at least 48 hours since the charred automobile was discovered, and there is still no indication of why. There is also no word about whose corpses were discovered or who is responsible.

Three days after the welfare check, Bamberg County deputies, with assistance from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, confirmed finding a charred car on Tuesday that appeared to contain human remains. The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, Denmark Fire Department, and Bamberg County Coroner’s Office all assisted at the location near Highway 70 and Turn Ray Road.

Dominion Energy was also seen on-site inspecting an electricity pole in the neighborhood. Deputies stated that SLED was asked to take the lead in the investigation. An autopsy of the remains was scheduled for Thursday in Newberry, with the coroner estimating a five to seven-day identification time. He couldn’t say what kind of vehicle was found.

Meanwhile, Bodiford’s family is waiting to hear from police enforcement.

“It is hard. It’s really hard. I miss her so badly. I truly don’t know how to describe it. I walked outdoors the other day and simply said, ‘Lord, I don’t understand this.’ Tommy Hutto, Bodiford’s grandfather, said, “This is hard.” During this time, the family clings to their memories of Bodiford.

“On April 11th, I heard from her and told her I loved her. She told me that she, too, loved me. Megan’s cousin, Heather Bodiford, said “Forever and always.” These were Megan’s final words to her cousin.

“She’s quite tough and resilient. And gorgeous. She is a good mommy. “We need her home,” Heather stated. “Her friends have sent me messages in which Megan expresses fear for her life. She stated that her child’s father had a gun and that if she was not reached within the next 30 minutes, she would call the police. Megan’s family finds it difficult to express their pain, but all they want is for her to return home.

“This is my baby cousin. She’s had to get home to these infants. I need her back home. Heather remarked, “I don’t want her lost.” Deputies said Bodiford stands 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 188 pounds. and could be driving a 2013-2015 dark gray Ford Explorer with the South Carolina temporary tag number CP0530PR.

The Bamberg County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information on Bodiford’s whereabouts to call 803-245-3000.
