ELO Keyboard Maestro Richard Tandy Passes Away at 76, What Is The Cause Of Death?

DEBARYLIFE – Richard Tandy, the veteran keyboardist for Electric Light Orchestra, passed away. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. In age, he was 76.

The founder of the British rock group, Jeff Lynne, announced Tandy’s passing on social media on Thursday.

I must convey my deep sorrow over the loss of my close friend and longtime collaborator, Richard Tandy. I will always treasure the lifetime of memories we shared with him. He was a fantastic musician and friend,” Lynne posted on Instagram.

A few pictures and a video of the two taken over the years were also supplied by Lynne.

What Is The Cause Of Death?

It was not stated what caused the death.

Tandy was one of the few original members to rejoin Jeff Lynne’s ELO when the group was resurrected in 2014, nearly thirty years after their 1986 breakup.

Next year, at the 57th Grammy Awards, Paul McCartney was among the celebrities in attendance when Lynne and Tandy performed with Ed Sheeran, playing songs like “Evil Woman” and “Mr Blue Sky.”

Along with Joan Baez, Pearl Jam, Tupac Shakur, Yes, Journey, and Nile Rodgers, ELO was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. In tribute to Chuck Berry, Lynne performed “Roll Over Beethoven” on stage during the ceremony.

ELO celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2021. The band was founded in Birmingham, England, in 1972 by Roy Wood, Bevan, and Lynne. Wood left the group shortly after.

The band, which is well-known for songs like “Strange Magic” and “Don’t Bring Me Down,” announced in March that The Over and Out Tour, their farewell tour, would take place in North America in August and September.
