Quadriplegic Man Claims Police Misconduct After Alleged Altercation in Miami-Dade

Miami-Dade County, Florida –  A quadriplegic man accused of twice assaulting a law enforcement officer came before a Miami-Dade judge for the first time.

The judge remarked, “I’ve never seen a case like this.”

Bryant Amastha reportedly attacked an officer with his motorized wheelchair even though he is limbless.

The 32-year-old, however, who goes by the YouTube handle El Valien-T, a recording artist, presents an alternative narrative.

“I didn’t do it at all,” he answered.

Amastha and his mother got into a fight at their Quail Heights, southwest Miami-Dade, home on Wednesday, prompting police to arrive.

A police report states that he became upset when she was taken into custody.

“The policewoman knocked over my wheelchair since I was standing in the narrow driveway,” Amastha claimed.

Stanwood brought up, “The report says you spit at an officer.”

Ah, right. I usually spit because I have acid reflux. And I spat in an entirely different direction,” Amastha exclaimed.

Amastha was being taken to the hospital by medics when he was interviewed by Local 10 News on Friday.

When he was pulled from his chair and placed in a police car after being arrested, he claimed he was injured.

Amastha claimed, “They manhandled me.” “I can’t cuff myself with my hands behind my back like they tried to.”

Although the judge in the case determined that there was reasonable cause, Amastha was nonetheless told to return on his recognizance.

Amastha’s lawyer told the judge, “Obviously, my client’s not a flight risk.”

If Amastha and the police occurred to cross paths, the judge gave her the instruction to avoid him.

According to a Miami-Dade police spokesman, the department had not received any complaints on the incident; in fact, this was the first time that they had heard of any claims of rough arrests or wheelchair damage.

The encounter was captured on camera by the officers’ body-worn gear, and Local 10 News has requested access to the video.
