Police Pursuit Ends in Arrest of Maryland Duo for Pennsylvania Car Thefts

Law enforcement police pursued down two Maryland males accused of repeated vehicle thefts early Thursday near New Freedom, Pennsylvania. The pursuit intensified when a Southern Regional Police officer discharged his pistol during a search that included a dog and a drone. The York Daily Record reports that no one was injured as a result of the incident.

Officials said the suspects, 19-year-olds Christian Wright of Pasadena, Maryland, and Marquis Brown of Stoney Beach, Maryland, were charged with receiving stolen items, larceny, loitering or prowling at night, and escaping arrest or custody on foot. Brown also faces an additional charge for escaping and eluding. The two were booked into York County Prison, each with a $50,000 bail.

The issue began at about 2:25 a.m. with a complaint of suspicious activity including vehicle break-ins. Southern Regional Police responded to the report, resulting in the discovery of a crashed stolen vehicle and a foot chase. ABC27 said that another stolen vehicle was discovered shortly after, abandoned just a short distance away from the scene.

In a dramatic twist to the night’s events, an officer confronted one of the suspects, who was then inside another vehicle. Despite demands to depart, the suspect drove away, leaving the car nearby, which was later seized by police. “The officer from the Southern Regional Police Department drew and fired his duty weapon during this incident,” according to a statement released by the police, as cited by the York Daily Record.

Further investigation has hinted at a greater criminal aspect, implying that Wright and Brown may be part of a larger thievery ring afflicting Southern York County. Both individuals are slated for a preliminary hearing on May 16, according to the MU News, implying that the extent of their suspected criminal activity has not been fully revealed. Multiple law enforcement agencies are still investigating the potential crime spree.
