Imaginary Heist: Police Accuse Hanover Man of Lying About Armed Robbery

A guy from Hanover who claimed to have been the victim of a robbery is now facing charges of his own, with the police reportedly stating that the man made up the tale the entire time.

Raymond Perry, 63, of Hanover, is facing misdemeanor charges of unsworn falsification to authorities and false incrimination as a result of what he alleged had occurred on the morning of Saturday, May 4. According to court records that were filed on Friday, the investigation into the incident began on May 4.

Perry had stated to the authorities that he had been held at gunpoint upon entering a car on the morning of May 4 when he was walking on the 100 block of Carlisle Street. This occurred after he had been promised a ride. Following that, he asserted that he was compelled to withdraw money from an automated teller machine (ATM).

The three individuals who were holding Perry at gunpoint were allegedly young men in their 20s, according to Perry’s assertions.

“After conducting additional investigations, it was determined that the robbery did not take place,” the Borough Police Department stated in a press release.

It has been decided that Perry will have a preliminary hearing on July 9, 2024.
