Rhode Island Man In Custody After Task Force Arrest On Massachusetts Charges

NEWPORT –  Juan Hernandez-Cruz, 28, was taken into custody on May 10 as a fugitive from justice on several charges filed by the Worcester Police Department by members of the Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force, the Massachusetts State Police, the Worcester Police Department, and uniformed Lincoln Woods Barracks personnel.

Hernandez-Cruz, of 20 Arthur Street in Warwick, was the subject of an arrest warrant and affidavit for the following offenses: assault, larceny from a building, kidnapping, armed burglary, and destruction of property.

The investigation that resulted in his capture was carried out by the Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force.

After being taken into custody without incident, Hernandez-Cruz was processed at the Wickford Barracks before being given over to representatives of the Third Division District Court for an arraignment.

In another instance, the 47-year-old homeless man Shawn Burkhart was taken into custody by the Special Victims Unit for neglecting to register as a sexual offender.

The Special Victims Unit and the Providence Police Department searched for Burkhart and investigated making the arrest.

Following processing, he was charged in the Sixth District Court and given an order to be detained for violating bail.

In addition, the ACI Investigations Unit charged multiple people on May 8 as a result of different investigations.

Bennie Vick, 52, Ryan Tripp, 29, Zachary Johnson, 31, Ibrahim Kuyateh, 44, and Enrique Miranda, 34, were all arraigned at Third District Court on a variety of counts, including felony assault and violating no-contact orders in domestic relationships.

Following their arraignment, everyone was turned over to the Sheriff’s Department.
