DEBARYLIFE – It’s likely that you already realize how wonderful it is to live in New England for a variety of reasons if you already do. We have four distinct seasons, for example, which adds excitement to the weather (to put it in one sense).

The beach, lakes, or mountains are other options for New Englanders, which is my favorite feature.

Every year, US News publishes a ranking of the top states in the nation based on eight criteria:

–  Criminal Activity and Rehabilitation
– Economy
– Education Stability of the Budget
– Infrastructure for Health Care
– Possibility in the Natural Environment

It’s Time to Puff Out Our Joint Chests, New England. We hold the second position! We hold the second position! According to usnews.com, New Hampshire is the 2nd best place to live in the whole country. Last year, New Hampshire was number six in this same poll.

In addition to being number two overall, New Hampshire was number one for Crime and Corrections (meaning we don’t just throw people in jail if they don’t deserve it). Also, the crime rate is low (even though I did have a couple of thefts happen to me when we lived in Manchester).

Almost all of the New England states scored very high in Crime and Corrections. The ranking for that category is as follows:

1. New Hampshire
2. Maine
3. Vermont
4. Massachusetts

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts came in at number 10 overall, according to the same poll on usnews.com.

Massachusetts was number two in the country for Health Care, which is not a surprise, given that we have the most incredible hospitals in the world. Hawaii took the top spot in that category. Of course, it did. All the aforementioned smart doctors made a ton of money and relocated to Hawaii.

I do love living in New Hampshire, but the markers it was measured by don’t really matter to me. My family is here. I would be happy wherever they are. Even if it’s Louisiana, which came in dead last.
