Hawthorne Road Crash Results In Fatality Of Gainesville Man, Serious Injury To Another

GAINESVILLE, Florida – Today there was a single-vehicle accident on SE Hawthorne Road (SR 20) that resulted in the serious injuries of a 64-year-old man and the death of a 74-year-old man. They were both Gainesville natives.

The 64-year-old man was driving a pickup truck eastbound on SE Hawthorne Road in the vicinity of SE 38th Court.

When the truck swerved off the road into the grassy center median and struck a tree at approximately 12:20 p.m., according to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

After the driver and passenger were freed using the Jaws of Life, UF Health Shands declared the passenger dead and Alachua County Fire Rescue took them there.

It is unclear from the announcement if the two males had on seatbelts or not.
