Restored? New York-Dublin Video Link Reopens After Suspension Over Misconduct
NEW YORK — With extra security, a video link that was previously closed because of unacceptable behavior on both sides of the Atlantic has returned between New York City and Dublin.
The outdoor video link between the two cities resumed on Sunday. It has been offline since May 8 and will be open from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. in New York and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Dublin.
The livestreaming public art piece known as the “Portal” was organized by the Flatiron NoMad Partnership, a corporate group based in Manhattan, and the Dublin City Council.
They stated they’ve taken action to stop individuals from walking on the sculpture and putting their phones up to the camera lens, as well as added more fences on the New York side.
The organizers issued a statement saying, “Now, if people step on the Portal and obstruct the camera, it will trigger a blurring of the livestream for everyone on both sides of the Atlantic.”

The exhibit’s organizers had marketed it as a means of “embracing the beauty of global interconnectedness.” It was put on hold after footage of inappropriate behavior, such as a New York-based OnlyFans model exposing her breasts and Dubliners brandishing swastikas, surfaced on social media.
The changes, according to the organizers, “will ensure that thousands of Portal fans will enjoy the experience on both sides of the Atlantic.”
The display is expected to remain up until autumn.
