South Carolina Fugitive Wanted for Rape and Murder Shot Dead by U.s. Marshal and St. Johns County Detective
On New Berlin Road, a gunshot that included a law enforcement officer resulted in the death of a guy who was wanted in South Carolina.
In a press conference held on Tuesday evening, Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters noted that the individual was wanted in South Carolina on multiple warrants, one of which was for sexual battery.

Additionally, he was of interest in connection with a fatal stabbing that had place in Jacksonville the previous week. A task force of the United States Marshals Service was conducting surveillance on the individual, and it was revealed that he was in Jacksonville, as stated by Sheriff Waters.
In Oceanway, at approximately 4:30 p.m., a detective from the JSO observed an automobile and made arrangements to keep an eye on it. In the fifteen minutes that had passed, a man who appeared to be the same as the desired individual emerged from a neighboring store. The detective also saw a male driver and a suspected female passenger exit the vehicle, according to Sheriff Waters.
Even though the motorist had fled the scene, the JSO detective continued to follow him. As the driver was being taken into custody, the first suspect was shot and killed by a United States Marshal and a detective from the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office who were both assigned to the United States Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force.

It was also reported to you by Action News Jax that one cop sustained minor injuries; however, we were not informed of the nature of the injuries or the agency that the officer pertains to. According to reports, the inquiry is now being handled by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement informed Action News Jax Annette Gutierrez that it would not offer any additional information because the investigation is still underway.
