A 36-year-old guy from Michigan City is accused of trying to kill someone by shooting at them with a shotgun
Michigan City, Indiana – According to the Michigan City Police, the La Porte County Dispatch Center received the first of three calls on Tuesday, May 21, at 7:28 p.m., reporting that someone was fighting verbally with others in the 700 block of Plymouth Court while brandishing a shotgun.
When police arrived, they found Michigan City resident Chad Topa, 36, with a loaded shotgun.
Authorities claim that they were able to defuse the situation and secure Topa’s loaded shotgun.
According to the responding officers’ preliminary investigation, Topa was brandishing the shotgun during a verbal dispute with several individuals in the 700 block of Plymouth Court.

Additionally, evidence found on the scene suggested that two of the individuals participating in the conflict were struck by the shotgun bullet.
The bullets did not strike anyone or cause any injuries to anyone involved in the event.
Officers gathered a number of pieces of evidence from the site and placed Topa under arrest.
LaPorte County Superior Court 1 heard this case from the LaPorte County Prosecutor’s Office, and the court determined there was probable cause to charge Topa with two counts of attempted murder, a level one felony, and two counts of attempted aggravated battery, a level three felony.
Topa’s first court date is set for May 28 at 8:30 a.m. in LaPorte County Superior Court 1. He was given a $100,000.00 cash-only bond.
