July 1 Marks Rise in Reno Parking Fines; Majority of Violations to See $20 Increase
DEBARYLIFE – Beginning this summer, drivers who park illegally in Reno will be responsible for increased costs.
The revised parking ordinance and pricing schedules were approved by the Reno City Council on Wednesday. Starting on July 1, most parking fee offenses in the city will increase by $20.
This is the first time the city has changed parking costs since 1990. The city believed the fines were so cheap that they weren’t successfully discouraging parking infractions, according to a news release.

The city contrasted the projected $45 punishment for parking in a yellow zone with the $89 cost charged by the city of Sparks.
The current charges in Sparks will still be roughly one-third of the penalties in Reno for parking in a red zone.
Between 700 and 900 parking complaints are filed with the city of Reno each month.
