‘NEW RULES’ – Maryland Set to Raise Vehicle Registration Fees for Drivers This Summer

Glen Burnie, Maryland – Maryland will raise its vehicle registration prices this summer.

According to the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration, the Budget Reconciliation and Financing Act of 2024 is the basis for the higher rates, which go into effect on July 1st.

“The MVA must modify vehicle registration fees following state law to help generate vital funds for the Transportation Trust Fund, which guarantees that all of the state’s infrastructure is in good repair,” Motor car Administrator Chrissy Nizer said in a statement.

“To make these new fees as affordable as possible, the MVA is now offering customers the convenient option to choose either a one or two-year registration at the time of their renewal.”

The weight and class of the vehicle determine the new base rate for registration payments, which have not altered since 2004. After July 1, the average passenger automobile up to 3,500 pounds will be charged $110.50.

Consumers whose vehicle registrations expire before the end of June 2024 or who are currently eligible for renewal will be charged the current prices for vehicle registration.

With a myMVA account, customers can renew their car registration online and view their registration charges.

A health care service surcharge, which goes toward funding trauma centers in Maryland and includes training and medevac services, is also included in the vehicle cost.
