15-Year-Old Manhattan Girl Fatally Injured in Fordham Manor Moped Collision, Driver Arrested

The girl, 15, was from Manhattan, and she passed away after being in a car accident in The Bronx’s Fordham Manor neighborhood.

Officers from the 52nd Precinct responded to a 911 report of a car crash at the junction of West 192nd Street and University Avenue on Tuesday, May 28, at approximately 12:09 p.m., according to the police.

A police spokesperson stated, “Upon arrival, officers observed an unconscious and unresponsive 15-year-old female with trauma about the head and body and an 18-year-old male with minor injuries.”

The representative said, “EMS arrived, declared the female dead at the scene, and took the boy to St. Barnabas Hospital, where his condition is listed as stable.

According to police, a preliminary investigation carried out by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad (CIS) revealed that Vehicle #1, a Honda Pilot driven by a 22-year-old man, was heading north on University Avenue when it collided with Vehicle #2, an 18-year-old male moped carrying a 15-year-old female passenger. The moped was traveling at a high speed in the same direction.

The 18-year-old driver of the moped was detained in connection with an earlier investigation, they said, and the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is still looking into the collision. The driver of Vehicle #1 stayed at the scene and was unharmed.

The deceased victim has been identified as Manhattan resident Dafney Juan, according to the police.

When it comes to collision investigations, the NYC Department of Transportation examines the street layout where the crashes have occurred, while the NYPD manages all criminal parts of the case.
