Traffic Alert: I-55 Northbound Reopens Completely Near Amite, What’s Changed?

NEW ORLEANS: The Louisiana State Police reports that I-55 has now completely reopened close to Amite.

Due to fallen trees, both the north and southbound lanes of Interstate 55 were closed at around six o’clock in the evening.

It was requested of drivers to choose other routes until the I-55 was completely reopened.

In the past, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Washington Parish, Pearl River, Hancock, and the nearby Mississippi counties of Walthall and Pike have all received tornado warnings.

Locals were advised to take cover immediately and watch WWL-TV for the most recent information.

Additionally, a tornado warning was issued especially for Husser, Loranger, and Folsom. The warnings ended at six o’clock.

A “Severe Thunderstorm Warning” was issued at 4:35 p.m. for the following locations: Hammond, La., and McComb, Miss.; East Baton Rouge, Livingston, Pike, Tangipahoa, West Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, St. Helena, Amite, Ascension, Pointe Coupee, till 5:15 p.m.

Just after 3 p.m., a “Severe Thunderstorm Watch” was issued for portions of Louisiana and Mississippi.

At the Lakefront Airport, 60 mph wind gusts were reported, according to the NWS.
