NYPD Officer Charged With Attempted Murder After Off-duty Road Rage Shooting in New Jersey

The New York City Police Department officer who is accused of shooting a driver during a road rage episode in New Jersey while he was off-duty has been charged with attempted murder. The incident allegedly occurred in New Jersey.

A late-night collision involving multiple vehicles resulted in the shooting of a man by NYPD Officer Hieu Tran, who is 27 years old, according to the Voorhees Township police department. Tran then departed the scene of the incident.

On May 17, at approximately eleven o’clock in the evening, it took place at the crossroads of Route 73 and Cooper Road in Voorhees Township, New Jersey. Voorhees Township is located in Camden County and is approximately 15 miles southeast of Philadelphia.

According to the authorities, the injured individual, who is 29 years old, is currently receiving treatment. In addition to being charged with second-degree aggravated assault and second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, Tran, who is originally from Yonkers, New York, was taken into custody in New York City on June 6th.

Ballistics evidence, security video, and mobile phone data were utilized by detectives to identify him as the person who is suspected of carrying out the shooting, according to the police.

On Friday, when Tran was being held in New York, he was presented with a judge for the very first time. This was in preparation for his extradition to New Jersey, where he is anticipated to be presented with another judge.

According to the sources, Tran is employed by the press office of the New York Police Department in the social media unit. During an interview with CBS New York, the police department stated that “the officer is currently suspended without pay.”
