Arrest in Joliet: MAN CHARGED With SEXUAL ASSAULT and HOME INVASION on Richards Street

Isaias Vargas, 23, a resident of Richards Street, is currently being held in the Will County Jail, according to Sergeant Tizoc Landeros of the Joliet Police Department Investigations Division.

He was charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, two counts of home invasion, unlawful restraint, two counts of battery, and one count of obstructing a police officer.

On Thursday morning, around 7:37 a.m., cops were dispatched to the 900 block of Richards Street, as stated by Landeros. A young lady informed them that a man was attempting to assault her while he was inside her home. After that, the young girl who had been victimized called back and stated that it was the neighbor.

The dispatcher was informed by her that Vargas had attempted to engage in sexual activities and had caused her pain. Next, the victim reported that Vargas escaped via the back window of the vehicle.

It was at that time that Landeros reported that officers noticed Vargas coming from the residence of the victim. Finally, Vargas started to run away. According to Landeros, Joliet Police officers took chase to Vargas, but they were finally unable to locate him owing to the dense forest that surrounded them.

While officers were keeping an eye on Vargas’ residence, which was also located in the 900 block of Richards, they came across a chicken coop. It was reported by the police that Vargas was discovered hiding on the second storey of the chicken coop.

It was reported by Landeros that detectives from the Joliet Police Department conducted an interview with Vargas, during which he acknowledged to climbing in the window and searching for the victim. At the time of the interview, Vargas disclosed to the investigators that he attempted to engage in sexual activity with the victim on Thursday.

In addition, he acknowledged sexually assaulting the victim when she was younger, as Landeros pointed out.

According to Landeros, the Joliet Police Department expressed gratitude to the Will County Sheriff’s Office, the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office, and the Will County Children Advocacy Center for their support in this particular investigation.
