Family Speaks Out After 10-Year-Old Shoots Woman at Memorial Day BBQ

In a tragic turn of events during a Memorial Day barbeque in 2022, a 10-year-old girl in Orlando, Florida, shot and killed 41-year-old Lashaun Rodgers.

This incident led to the sentencing of the girl’s mother, Lakrisha S. Isaac, to five years in prison. The family of the victim has voiced strong emotions towards Isaac, expressing their grief and anger.

On Friday, a Florida judge handed down the sentence to 33-year-old Isaac, who had pleaded no contest in May to charges of manslaughter and culpable negligence.

These charges stemmed from her decision to store or leave an unloaded firearm within reach of a minor. Isaac will receive 128 days of credit for time already served. After her release, she will be on probation for three years and is required to take a parenting class.

The fatal incident occurred during a Memorial Day gathering when an argument between Isaac and Rodgers escalated into a physical altercation.

During the fight, Isaac handed her daughter a bag containing a gun. The 10-year-old girl then took the gun and allegedly shot Rodgers, who later died from her injuries.

In the courtroom, Judge Kevin B. Weiss addressed the family of the victim, acknowledging their pain and loss. “To the family, I am so sorry for your loss.

Sometimes we find justice in other ways. If this is something you are struggling with, I can tell you that each and every one of us understands your struggle,” he said, according to WKMG.

Sharetta Rodgers, the victim’s sister, spoke passionately about the impact of the tragedy on their family. “Not a second, not a minute, not a day goes by without us living the hurt and devastation, the pain and fear you caused on the family,” she said, as reported by WFTV.

When asked by a reporter what message she would give to Isaac, Sharetta’s response was blunt and filled with emotion: “F— you.”

The tragic event unfolded on May 30, 2022, when Orlando Police Department officers responded to 911 calls about a possible shooting at a residence on Mercy Drive.

First responders found Rodgers lying on the sidewalk at the rear of the building, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Despite immediate CPR and transport to Orlando Regional Medical Center, Rodgers remained in critical condition and succumbed to her injuries the next day.

Witnesses provided detailed accounts of the events leading up to the shooting. Rodgers’ boyfriend recounted that he and Rodgers were grilling when an intoxicated Isaac confronted Rodgers over a recent dispute. Another witness mentioned that the argument was related to a social media post.

Isaac, accompanied by her daughter, began a physical confrontation by punching Rodgers. When Rodgers retaliated, Isaac handed her daughter a backpack.

As the fight continued, the 10-year-old girl retrieved a firearm from the bag and shot Rodgers. Witnesses reported that the girl shouted, “She shouldn’t have hit my momma,” after discharging the weapon.

According to the source, Isaac then took the firearm from her daughter and pointed it at Rodgers’ boyfriend, who described the fear he felt looking into the barrel of the gun.

The victim’s boyfriend and another witness led police to Isaac’s apartment, where she and her daughter were detained.

One witness recalled seeing the girl rummaging through the backpack and hearing a gunshot shortly after punches were exchanged. The girl reportedly yelled, “You f—ing with my momma,” after shooting Rodgers.

This case has drawn significant attention and raises questions about gun safety, parental responsibility, and the impact of such traumatic events on families and communities.

The sentencing of Lakrisha S. Isaac marks a legal resolution, but for the family of Lashaun Rodgers, the emotional scars and the loss remain profound.
