According to CBC News, Jessie van Rijn and Daryl Cloran, executives of the Citadel Theatre, paid their respects to the performer.
“His presence brought joy, heart and depth to every role, and his artistic contributions and big hugs will be deeply missed,” they stated.
They went on to say that Julien was adored by his fellow actors and a valued part of Edmonton’s theater scene.
A tragic homage to the adored actor was posted by the Punctuate Theatre, where his wife Sheiny Satanov serves as managing director.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the sudden passing of our beloved friend Julien Arnold on the evening of November 24,” the statement read.
“Julien was a cherished member of the Edmonton theatre community whose warmth, talent, and generosity touched so many lives,” said the statement.
“He leaves behind many loved ones including his loving wife, Sheiny Satanove, Punctuate! Theatre s Managing Director, who now faces the immense challenge of moving forward without him.”
The Canadian actor gained notoriety for starting the Free Will Players, a Shakespeare theater group that organized the Freewill Shakespeare Festival.
David Horak, the festival’s director, commended Julien both as an actor and as a person.
“He just had the ability to create characters that had the biggest hearts in the world, and he was like that as well, as a person,” said Horak.
“There’s nobody, nobody quite like him,” he said.
After graduating from the University of Alberta in 1989, he was raised in Edmonton.
He starred in classic dramas including Sense and Sensibility, The Wizard of Oz, and Twelfth Night over his decades-long acting career.
