Adam Schefter left devastated after announcing death of beloved family pet as ESPN legend releases statement
Adam Schefter, an ESPN insider, revealed the passing of his cherished family pet.
Benny, Schefter’s dog, lost his fight with cancer on Wednesday.
In a heartfelt social media message, Schefter said that Benny passed away in his sleep before to the treatment, which his family had intended to do.
When Benny passed away, he was fifteen years old.
“This was a day we knew was coming since last February, and yet there still is an overwhelming sense of sadness,” Schefter stated on X.
“After more than 15 years as our baby, we had intended to put our beloved Benny down.

He stopped eating, had spread liver cancer, and was scarcely able to stand anymore.
“We spent Monday and Tuesday sobbing over and with Benny, and we made an appointment for a veterinarian to visit our home at 11 a.m. today.
Then, on the day we dreaded, Benny was gone when we woke up this morning. In his sleep, he passed away. We’re stunned.
Benny already overcame a cancer battle years ago and had his kidney removed, according to Schefter.
“Roughly seven or so years ago, when he first was diagnosed with cancer, doctors removed one of his kidneys,” writes Schefter.
“Then, in February of last year, he was rushing up our rear steps into our house when he stumbled and hurt his leg, making it difficult for him to walk.
In addition to Benny’s ACL tear, the doctors found that he had liver cancer and additional lumps that had gone to his lungs.
His physician informed us on February 23, 2024, that Benny had two to three months to live. My spouse and I were inconsolable.
Following the revelation, Schefter received a flurry of social media support from fans.
One fan said, “RIP Benny-enjoy your trip over the Rainbow Bridge.”
“Gosh. “I’m sorry for your loss,” remarked another enthusiast.
