Alert! Delta Bank Issues Warning About ‘Legitimate’ Bank Fraud Scam Targeting Customers

NATCHEZ — Delta Bank, a series of banks in Mississippi and Louisiana that was founded in 1973 in Ferriday, Louisiana, alerts consumers to a new online banking scam in which con artists pose as Delta Bank affiliates to trick gullible consumers.

The bank posted a warning on its social media pages, saying, “Everyone needs to be aware that fraudsters are at it again and with a vengeance.” “We have observed a number of commonalities in the recent attacks on our customers through social engineering.”

According to Delta Bank, the latest fraud starts with a text message asking if the recipient has charged X dollars to an unidentified business.

The person will then get a call from someone claiming to be from Delta Bank’s fraud department at 888-757-8601 as soon as possible. Although this is the actual 888 number for Delta Bank, the bank claims that the scammers have “spoofed” it.

According to officials, “the fraudsters use whatever information they have to socially engineer our customers into giving up more information.” The fraudsters then try to access the victim’s online banking account if they gather enough information.

“The fraudster requests it as proof that they are communicating with our customer when they receive what appears to be a “genuine” text asking the customer to validate the online banking session.”

The fraudsters can then send transfers and other transactions from their online banking account once the customer provides them with this SMS code.

The business issues a warning, saying, “The fraudsters have just enough to sound like they are representing Delta Bank.” “Please, always use diligence. Please visit your local branch right away if you are unsure if ANY contact purporting to be from the Bank is genuine.

Always be wary of unsolicited emails, messages, or phone calls to safeguard yourself against this and other similar phone or online frauds.

Never open links from strangers or provide any sensitive information—such as your social security number, bank account number, or online login—to someone you don’t know, even if they pretend to be from a reputable company.

If in doubt, find out whether there has been any fraud on your account by visiting your neighborhood branch office, conducting independent investigation, or using an official app or a reliable phone number.

Saying “yes” or “no” won’t help you deal with a questionable caller, so ignore them if you receive one.
