Andy Reid faces major decision on coach who ‘did incredible things with Patrick Mahomes’ amid huge backroom changes

A former coach on Andy Reid’s staff might get back together.

Mike Kafka used to be the Kansas City Chiefs’ assistant coach.

From 2018 until 2022, Kafka coached the Chiefs’ quarterbacks, assisting Patrick Mahomes-Blossom in becoming an MVP.

Although his eventual appointment as the team’s offensive coordinator was always anticipated, Eric Bieniemy remained with the organization for a longer period of time than anticipated.

Kafka later signed with the New York Giants as their offensive coordinator as a result.

They advanced to the playoffs and won a postseason game for the first time in eleven seasons during his first season with the team.

Since then, though, the Giants’ fortunes have deteriorated; they missed the playoffs the previous season and are expected to do so again.

Kafka might have to leave his job during the offseason due to the postseason futility, and he might be looking for another employment.

What greater strategy could there be than going back to the location where he made his name as a head coach?

Andy Reid, who has already recommended Kafka for the head coaching job in Arizona, adores him as a coach.

“He is very intelligent, great human being,”Reid remarked.

“He will be adored by the quarterback. He will push him to surpass his current level of excellence.

However, he will perform admirably and push the group. The men will answer. He was a National Football League player.

“I think he would be tremendous for the city, for the Bidwill family and for you all.”

Mahomes praised his old quarterbacks coach just as highly.

“Coach Kafka is a special person and a special coach,” he stated.

“When he first arrived, he was in charge of quality control, and I was a rookie that year. He kind of took me [under his wing].”

“Coach Kafka spent a lot of time teaching me the playbook and how to become an NFL quarterback.

“That continued for a long time.”

If given the chance, Kafka might want to rejoin the Chiefs, but most likely not as offensive coordinator.

The Chiefs’ current offensive coordinator, Matt Nagy, has led the team to two straight Super Bowl victories.

Unless he was hired as head coach, it doesn’t seem plausible that the team would replace him.
