Andy Reid faces major decision on Patrick Mahomes protection for AFC West showdown after Las Vegas Raiders hell

To keep Patrick Mahomes safe, the Kansas City Chiefs are on the verge of switching up their offensive line.

Mahomes may finally be receiving some assistance at left tackle, a spot he has struggled with all season.

Mahomes struggled to get time from the offensive line during the Chiefs’ narrow victory over the Las Vegas Raiders last week.

During the fourth quarter, a defender had a free path to sack Mahomes after left tackle Wanya Morris utterly whiffed on a block.

He was seen on the broadcast hitting the ball in rage, obviously annoyed by the mistake.

Joe Thuney benched Morris following that play, but he too might be replaced by the next week.

DJ Humphries, an offensive tackle, may make a comeback for the Chiefs when they play the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 14.

“The most important thing is that we work him in and see how he feels. Reid told reporters, “I just want to make sure he’s in a good position because he hasn’t played in a while.”

“He did a nice job last week working in there, and we’ll do a little bit more with him this week.”

While Humphries was recuperating from a serious knee injury he suffered in January while playing for the Arizona Cardinals, the Chiefs signed him last month.

Humphries signed with Kansas City after the Cardinals cut him from the team while he was on injured reserve.

He might start playing when Mahomes needs assistance at left tackle, despite being labeled as inactive for the Week 13 matchup against the Raiders.

Patrick Mahomes labeled ‘rare and unique’ for locker room trait by Chiefs GM who praises ‘ambassador’ Travis Kelce

“Listen, the last week was a short week, so we didn’t have a whole lot of time for the fast part of the game, practices, and so this week,” Reid explained.

As we proceed, I’ll have a better concept and he’ll have a greater understanding of his feelings. After that, we can move forward and observe how everything turns out.

Reid revealed that they will take their time with Humphries, making sure he is completely well before on the field.

The Chiefs will insert him into the lineup if he appears ready to play.

“I don’t think that’s probably fair to D.J. right now, just him coming off this offseason,” said Reid.
