Andy Reid sends clear message to Travis Kelce over risky play following Kansas City Chiefs win over Las Vegas Raiders

ANDY Reid shared his thoughts on Travis Kelce’s risk-taking on the field with the world.

The 35-year-old Kansas City Chiefs star tight end’s biggest concern stems from a particular play he tried again in Week 13 when the team defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 19–17.

During the game on Black Friday, Kelce displayed yet another spectacular play.

For the second time in the 2024 NFL season, the nine-time Pro Bowler threw a lateral throw.

Reid said he was fine with the play when questioned about it, but only if the pass resulted in a completion.

If the play had failed, though, the three-time Super Bowl champion head coach would have been disappointed.

Reid told reporters during a Zoom call on Monday, “He’s [Travis Kelce] been doing it for a few years,” according to Chiefs Wire.

“You guys see that we practice it daily, so you know that this isn’t something we just do on game day.

“It’s something we do, so everything is okay with that just as long as you complete them.”

During a third-and-10 play with just over four minutes remaining in the second quarter, Kelce caught a five-yard pass from Patrick Mahomes and delivered a ball to his teammate Samaje Perine.

Four plays after Perine’s first down, the Chiefs scored a touchdown.

After the game, the 29-year-old running back talked about the play.

Perine told reporters, “I can tell you that it was not scripted.”

After observing him perform it a few times during practice, I thought, ‘Let me stay in phase, just in case.’

“And, sure enough, I saw him switch the ball and win his arm back and I was just ready for it.”

The maneuver was originally demonstrated by Kelce in Kansas City’s victory over the New Orleans Saints in Week 5.

With Perine, he was able to accomplish the play.

Just past the line of a scrimmage, Kelce grabbed a short ball from Mahomes on a 3rd-and-22 play.

Perine was tackled one yard short of the first down when Kelce lateraled the ball to him rather than being tackled.

With their victory last week, the Chiefs, who are 11-1 overall, guaranteed a postseason berth.
