Arrest Made: Suspected Getaway Driver in 2022 San Leandro Hospital Robbery

SAN LEANDRO, California — The individual who was recognized by authorities as the getaway driver in the robbery and death of a security guard at Kaiser Hospital in San Leandro in 2022 was taken into custody by a knowledgeable officer of the California Highway Patrol in Southern California on Memorial Day.

On Monday, the suspect, identified as Artemio Torres, the age of 28, was brought back to Alameda County.

September of 2022 was the month that the robbery and gunshot death took place. One of the accused was responsible for the shooting death of the security guard that occurred during the heist. Akbar Bey, age 28 and a resident of Oakland, was taken into custody by the San Francisco Police Department in October of 2022.

In the coastal city of Oxnard, which is located in Ventura County, a California Highway Patrol officer made a traffic stop on a vehicle on May 27 for a violation of the vehicle registration registration. The driver allegedly provided the California Highway Patrol officer with a forged identification card, as stated by the San Leandro Police Department.

The officer from the California Highway Patrol was not fooled and ultimately discovered that the driver was actually Torres, who had a warrant out for his arrest from San Leandro.

As a result of Torres’s arrest, there are no other suspects who are still at large in this investigation.

According to the S.L. Police Department, Torres is being charged with felony robbery.
