Arrest papers state that an Acura sedan with dark tinted windows was discovered by two Miami-Dade detectives operating an unmarked red Jeep Compass as part of their Robbery Intervention Detail.
When the Acura suddenly stopped in front of a house and they went to look into the ostensibly unlawful window tinting, David stepped out of the driver’s seat and Richardson got out of the passenger seat, according to the report.
According to the report, one of the detectives was wearing a tactical vest with the name “POLICE” on the breast, and the Compass’s windows were down when it passed.

The investigators claimed to have overheard David ask them, “What’s up? What’s going on? According to the investigation, they first behaved in “an aggressive or threatening manner” before opening fire on the cops.
According to the investigation, there were at least five gunshots that struck the Compass, with one bullet barely missing one of the investigators.
David and Richardson were located at David’s house, where detectives had set up a perimeter and adopted a defensive stance.
According to the report, after searching the house, investigators discovered a gun in David’s room and another in an attic area next to the room.
David told police that he had been following a red car from a nearby gas station when “unknown persons shot the firearms,” according to the report. David then abruptly parked.
According to the report, one of the witnesses who had accompanied David and Richardson claimed that they were being followed by an unidentified red car.
Lawyers for both individuals questioned the circumstances surrounding the incident during court appearances.

Since they might not have recognized who was pursuing them and might not have noticed the officer’s vest, Richardson’s lawyer said that it might have been a case of self-defense.
David’s lawyer also questioned the decisions made by the investigators.
Jonathan Jordan, the lawyer, stated, “I have serious concerns about the actions of law enforcement in this case judge.” “This is a Jeep Compass with undercover agents inside; it isn’t a police Jeep Compass; it’s an unmarked police car. I know the police; I’ve had a chance to look over the A-form. They passed past in their own unmarked, tinted automobile late at night.
He continued by saying that David is a college student with no prior convictions for crimes.
“This is a case that never should have happened, this is a case of undercover officers not following protocol, once again, that led to a shooting,” said Jordan.
The judge ultimately determined that there was probable cause for both individuals and mandated their incarceration without bond.
