At least 12 dead and 30 injured after packed tourist bus plunges into 160ft gorge in Colombia
A tourist bus crashed into a 160-foot chasm, killing at least 12 passengers and injuring 30 more.
The catastrophe happened early this morning on a portion of the Pan-American Highway in Pasto, Colombia.
According to NTN24, 42 people were on the bus, and the victims were sent to hospitals in Tangua, Ipiales, and Pasto.
The identities and ages of those involved in the collision are still being looked into by Colombian Traffic Police.
Colombia’s Minister of Transportation, Mar a Constanza Garc an Alicastro, paid respects on social media.
He stated: “My deepest condolences to the families affected by this tragedy and I express my full solidarity on behalf of the national government in these difficult times.”

It is thought that the bus’s mechanical malfunction caused the atrocity.
In Tangua (Nari o), at kilometer 49 of the Pasto-Rumichaca highway, the tourist-packed car plunged into the gorge.
Prior to the collision, it is believed to have driven on roads with steep turns and bends.
The bus was headed to Santuario de las Lajas, a well-known tourist destination in Ipiales, Nari án.
