Attempted Assassination of Donald Trump Thwarted at Florida Golf Club

Donald Trump was the target of an attempted assassination at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, marking the second attempt on his life in just nine weeks. The FBI has taken charge of the investigation, with the man involved now in custody. The incident unfolded when U.S. Secret Service agents, stationed near Trump, spotted the muzzle of an AK-style rifle sticking through the shrubbery on the golf course. The gunman fled in an SUV after an agent fired in his direction, leaving behind a rifle, two backpacks, and a GoPro camera.

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw confirmed that the man was later apprehended in a neighboring county. The suspect, identified as 58-year-old Ryan Routh, had a calm demeanor and showed little emotion when arrested. Routh had previously expressed support for Trump but had shifted his views, posting in favor of Biden and Harris in recent years.

This incident raised concerns about the adequacy of Secret Service protective operations, particularly after a similar assassination attempt on Trump in July. During that incident, Trump was grazed by a bullet at a rally in Pennsylvania, leading to heightened security around the former president. For more on the previous attempt, visit AP News.

As investigations continue, it remains unclear how this latest development will impact Trump’s campaign schedule. Trump reassured supporters that he was safe, stating in an email, “Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER!” He also expressed gratitude towards the Secret Service and law enforcement for their swift actions.
