(FOX 2) AUBURN HILLS, MIFollowing a reported stabbing during a confrontation between two teenagers, several Metro Detroit schools were placed under lockdown on Tuesday.
What they’re saying:
Both Auburn Hills’ Avondale High School and the nearby elementary school saw a brief lockdown. A 15-year-old and a 16-year-old student reportedly got into a brawl, according to FOX 2. Around 7:45 a.m., according to the police, the older adolescent allegedly took out a pocket knife.
“The quantity of school violence that has been occurring around the country disturbs some individuals. People are easily agitated by such things because they are sensitive,” stated Dr. Jim Schwarz, the Avondale School District’s superintendent.
The injured student was picked up by a family member and sent to a neighboring hospital, which is how the Auburn Hills Deputy Chief said they learned about the event about an hour after it occurred.
“It’s tragic, school violence,” Scott McGraw, the deputy chief expressed. “These disputes get out of hand pretty fast. It goes without saying that the school does a fantastic job of keeping this place safe.
A search was conducted after the 16-year-old suspect was caught on camera sneaking through a side door at the school. Parents received an email right away.
“We were very transparent in getting out what we knew at the time when we knew it,” Schwarz stated. “You constantly have to contend with a lot of false information on social media and what people believe occurs. You’re fighting a lot of it, then.
Next steps:
The 15-year-old student who was allegedly stabbed is expected to recover, FOX 2 was informed.
Police eventually located and spoke with the guy who was thought to be responsible for the incident at his residence.
This led to the lifting of the lockdown.
There is an investigation going on.
“This is one of those isolated incidents that happened between two students, and hopefully we can get it resolved and make sure this doesn’t happen again,” McGraw stated.
