Avowed is turning the corner on 2024’s slew of lacklustre Western RPGs
OBSIDIAN, a game creator renowned for saving games from extinction, has a vast collection that is difficult to categorize.
Before THQ Nordic’s catastrophic South Park: Snow Day, South Park: Stick of Truth was the turning point for the series’ video game adaptations.
After Bethesda’s disastrous Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas was viewed as a comeback.
Although not all Obsidian games have been successful, pentiment was something entirely fresh in a typography-based murder mystery.
Avowed, Obsidian’s upcoming fantasy action role-playing game, appeared in the teaser to be an attempt to reimagine The Elder Scrolls, another Bethesda classic.
On the surface, it appears that the team may make another Bethesda comeback, similar to Fallout before it.

Like most Western role-playing games, you begin with a character builder, albeit your options are very limited at this stage.
We believe this is because the release date of February 18, 2025, is still a ways off, and we hope it will be further developed in the future.
Even though you are the protagonist of the tale, you cannot avoid the fact that people will still evaluate you based on your awful mushroom-like abnormalities.
Although we only saw a small portion of the plot in our preview, we liked the characters and felt the writing was excellent.
We already saw several intriguing personalities and a variety of settings in the first hour, and we were captivated to see more.
There are several conversation options for interaction, so you can customize your character to your preference.
Your character’s uniqueness is further enhanced by the intriguing inclusion of some of the dialogue possibilities being locked behind your stats.
With your usual heavy and light attacks at various scenarios, the fight is Avowed’s greatest strength.
Swinging a sword feels heavy, yet swinging a bow feels swift and sharp.
Additionally, there is a magic system that may be accessible in two ways: by speccing into magic during your level up or by using magic tomes.
By combining magic and melee, it offers you more choices for character development.
Even better, you can make two distinct loadouts and use a button to switch between them.
Despite the large number of comparable games that have been made before it, the world design is nearly as enticing as the level design, which feels distinctive.

We hope that Avowed meets up to these lofty early expectations, but there is still a long way to go before its release.
