Baltimore Ravens receiver Diontae Johnson suspended in ‘difficult decision’ as team claims he ‘refused to enter game’

Diontae Johnson, a receiver for the Baltimore Ravens, has been suspended for one game.

According to the organization, the 28-year-old declined to play against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Philadelphia defeated Baltimore 24-19 in a matchup in Week 13.

Eric DeCosta, general manager of the Ravens, made the announcement Wednesday.

He stated that the “difficult decision” was the result of Sunday’s defeat.

Additionally, because the Ravens are on bye this week, Johnson will miss the game against the New York Giants on December 15.

“We have made the difficult decision to suspend Diontae Johnson for our upcoming game against the New York Giants for conduct detrimental to the team,” DeCosta tweeted.

“We will have no further comments on this matter going forward.”

Despite wearing the uniform, Johnson did not play a single snap against Philadelphia.

It had been a secret until DeCosta made the statement.

In October, Johnson was traded from the Carolina Panthers.

In return for a fifth-round pick, Baltimore acquired Johnson and a sixth-round pick.

In an effort to increase the Ravens’ receiving space and support their postseason run, the receiver was selected.

However, in his four games with Baltimore, he has only caught one pass for six yards.

“We want him out there,” stated Lamar Jackson, the quarterback for the Ravens.

The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Johnson in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Before being traded to the Panthers, he played for the Steelers for four years.

John Harbaugh, the head coach of the Ravens, was unsure if Johnson would remain with the organization.

With their loss, Baltimore dropped to 8-5 and now sits in second place in the AFC North.
