Beachgoer, 64, run over & killed by delivery truck as she sunbathed on sand – & driver ‘didn’t realise he’d hit anyone’

While sunbathing on Gran Canaria, a tourist was struck and killed by a delivery truck.

While her husband was swimming in the sea at the British resort of Playa del Ingles, the 64-year-old victim was struck by a 4×4 pickup.

After being found by police soon after the accident, the driver of the car that struck her claimed he was unaware that he had just struck someone. He also failed to stop.

The event occurred a few feet from a beach kiosk that was reportedly one of the ones to which the pick-up carried goods, close to the well-known Maspalomas Dunes.

It is believed that the current police inquiry is concentrating on determining whether the car was following a predetermined path and why it was on the beach outside of the allowed delivery hours of 8 and 11 a.m.

Although the victim’s nationality has not yet been verified by officials, it is believed that she is a German vacationing in the southern region of Gran Canaria.

“A woman has died after being run over by a quad on a beach in Gran Canaria,” stated a spokesperson for an emergency response coordination center established by the regional administration.

“The event happened at Playa del Ingles in the municipality of San Bartolome de Tirajana yesterday at approximately 12.30 p.m.

“After beach lifeguards arrived and provided first medical treatment, it was determined that she was dead.

“Police attended the scene along with paramedics.”

According to reliable police sources, the driver who struck the tourist passed drug and alcohol testing.

Despite being completely recognized, he is not believed to have been taken into custody.

An investigative judge who is in charge of a continuing court investigation into the disaster will now question him.

He has been described locally as a 50-year-old who has been working on the beach for ten years and is well-versed in the area, even though police have not disclosed his country.
