BJ’s Wholesale Club doubles down on delivery policy after shopper ‘forced’ to pay extra $3.99 for item & vows boycott
The store was criticized by a BJ’s Wholesale member when there appeared to be misunderstandings over its delivery policy.
However, in spite of the irate customer, the retailer appeared to double down.
The consumer vowed to boycott the chain, which has more than 200 locations across the US, because they were so furious.
They said in an Xpost that they were compelled to pay an additional fee even though they wanted to purchase a $49.99 video game.
They said they couldn’t benefit from the free shipping offer.
The customer claimed that picking up the item in-store cost them an additional $3.99.

During the outburst, the customer recommended that the chain alter its name.
A BJ’s representative addressed the irate customer.
According to them, if you are not a Club+ Card member or a BJ’s One+ Mastercard holder, you will be charged $3.99 for orders under $50.
For purchases over $50, curbside pickup is free for Club+ members and BJ’s Mastercard users; otherwise, there is a charge.
The customer went on to say that he didn’t see anything that would make them go overboard that was on sale for one additional cent.

Despite being a smaller distributor than Sam’s Club and Costco, BJ’s provides customers with an alluring benefit.

Costco, meanwhile, is taking tough measures against people who attempt to use its members’ benefits without having a membership.
Employees at Costco are making sure non-members don’t utilize self-checkouts.
Employees have been requesting identification from customers without photo membership cards.
Members are required to place their cards beneath a reader, which Costco executives have been putting at the front of entrances.
After testing, the scanners were made available to a much wider audience.

According to USA Today, Costco stated that the purpose of the trial was to guarantee that customers have a better experience.

Costco’s membership scanners
At the doors to its stores, Costco has installed membership scanners.
The retailer posted a statement regarding the scanners on their website in August 2024.
“Over the coming months, membership scanning devices will be used at the entrance door of your local warehouse,” it stated.
“Once deployed, all members must scan their membership card—either digital or physical—by pressing the barcode or QR code against the scanner before they can enter.
“In order to enter, guests must also be accompanied by a current member.
“An attendant is always there to help at the door if you have any queries or concerns!
“The attendant will ask you to visit the membership counter before you enter the warehouse to shop if your membership is inactive, has expired, or you would like to create a new one.
Additionally, please be ready to present a legitimate photo ID if your membership card lacks one.
“We encourage you to stop by the membership counter to have a photo taken to have on your card.”
